The city dwellers had a harrowing time as large parts of Kolkata were choked due to Trinamool Congress' 'Martyrs Day' rally on Tuesday.
Large stretches of the city, including roads and important junctions were closed since early morning as TMC supporters from across it and the state wound their way to the rally venue in Esplanade.
According to traffic department officials Park Street Flyover, SN Banerjee Road, Chittaranjan Avenue, AJC Bose Road, Esplanade East were virtually closed from 11 am as huge processions of TMC supporters from various parts of the city and the districts took to the streets since morning.
As a result buses, taxis, private cars, ambulances were stranded for several hours, they said.
Traffic was affected again when the rally ended at 3 pm, the officials said.
