Kolkata: A constable tonight attempted suicide at the Writers' Building (state secretariat) here by shooting himself from his service rifle, police sources said.
The constable, identified as Sahadeb Mondal, of the second battalion of Kolkata Police, was taken to state-run SSKM hospital in a critical condition, sources said.
Ministers and officers had left the secretariat when the constable tried to end his life by shooting in his head, they said.
