Family of five in south Kolkata charred to death
Kolkata: A family of five was charred to death in a south Kolkata flat on Sunday night.

The fire was noticed around 2.30 am today from the window of the family's second floor flat in Kolkata's Moore Avenue.

The door to the flat was locked from inside.  Three fire tenders were immediately rushed to Gangotri Apartment and the blaze was brought under control. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.  The possibility of accident has not entirely been ruled out though why the family didn't run out of the burning room is a question the police is verifying. The police are also not ruling out a suicide pact or homicide.

One of the possibilities the police is investigating is, one family member may have drugged the rest, set fire to the room and committed suicide.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem.

The victims are Supratim Basu, his wife Sangeeta, father Sudesh and daughters Sayoni, 20 and Saheli, 15, students of La Martiniere for Girls.
