Kolkata:
A fire broke out at the emergency ward of government-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata. The fire erupted after short-circuit in the air conditioner.
Four fire engines which were at the spot doused the fire. The emergency ward as well as wards on the floors above were evacuated after smoke billowed out.
The hospital operations are running normally now and patients are back.
In West Midnapore, a fire erupted in the basement of Spandan Nursing Home. Seventy patients were evacuated from the building and shifted to a government hospital.
The fire has been brought under control. Four rescue workers have been injured.
These incidents once again raise questions about the fire preparedness at hospitals in West Bengal. In a similar incident in December last year, 94 people had died after fire at Kolkata's premier AMRI Hospital. The police filed a chargesheet against 16 people on March 1, accused of involvement in the fire tragedy.
