Kolkata: A fire broke out in a multi-storeyed building in Kolkata's Chowringhee area this evening. It took around 15 fire engines to douse the fire. The building is opposite Birla Planetarium and has a petrol pump next to it.
Fire brigade sources said the fire, detected at about 8.30 pm near the staircase of the 10th floor, was brought under control by eight tenders deployed in the operation. There was no report of any casualty, they said. Firemen rescued all those trapped in the floor which houses some private offices.
"Evacuation of people from inside the building is also on. So far, there is no report of any casualty," said a fire brigade officer.
Cause of the fire and extent of damage were under investigation.
