Holy relics stolen from Belur Math in West Bengal

Kolkata: Holy relics of Ma Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of mystic saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, has gone missing from the museum at Belur Math near Kolkata, police said.

Monks of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have lodged a complaint with the police stating that Ma Sarada's strands of hair, teeth and rosary beads were untraceable, they said.

Reverentially addressed as Holy Mother, Ma Sarada had played an important role in the growth of Ramakrishna Movement.

A monk said that they noticed that the relics kept in a transparent glass box were not in their place on Tuesday evening after the museum was closed for the day.

Located inside the Belur Math campus, Ramakrishna museum has articles and artifacts closely associated with Sri Ramakrishna, Ma Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other direct disciples of the Master.

Founded in 1898 by Swami Vivekananda on the western banks of the river Ganges, Belur Math's lush green campus sprawling over 40 acres is thronged by tourists and devotees alike for its architecture elegance, clean environs, sacred associations and spiritual atmosphere.
