Kolkata: India's biggest railway terminus, Howrah Junction, will soon have a spanking new 'Sainik Aramgah' or restrooms for on-transit defence personnel to make their rail journey more comfortable.

Station Commander, Kolkata Garrison, Maj. Gen. Harsha Kakar reviewed the facilities during an inspection at the Howrah railway station and expressed satisfaction at the upcoming project being readied by the railways, a defence ministry release said.

"The new facility replete with modern amenities at platform No.17, is expected to be ready in the next two months," said Col. Bhaskaran, Commanding Officer, 413 Movement Control/Movement Forward Detachment.

The Movement Control Office, Howrah, raised April 29, 1957, is among the three MCOs located in Kolkata.

While the MCO at the Sealdah railway station also caters to the needs of passengers of the armed forces, the one located at Dum Dum fulfils the air transportation needs of soldiers and senior armed forces dignitaries.

Nearly a lakh defence personnel are directly dependent on the Howrah MCO, which also supervises movement of critical military stores, additional coaches, military compartments and goods.
