Kolkata: Unable to bear constant humiliation from her near and dear ones for her dark complexion, a 32-year-old school teacher committed suicide by setting herself on fire in West Bengal.
Brototi Das, who set herself afire by dousing with kerosene at her home in East Midnapore district's Chandipur village Nov 12, died at the Tamluk hospital early on Sunday, police said.
"I wanted to marry a boy from Kolkata. But my family members used to taunt me by referring to my dark complexion."
"I had to put up with constant humiliation for my complexion. I was told all the time that nobody will marry me," the woman had said in a Kolkata hospital two days back.
The victim, with hundred percent burns, was shifted to the Tamluk Hospital on Saturday morning.
