Kolkata Police will share interrogation details of arrested JMB terrorists with Assam. (File)
Intelligence gathered from interrogation of six alleged Jamaat-Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh terrorists (JMB) will be shared with their Assam counterparts, the West Bengal Police said on Thursday. If required police from the two states could conduct joint operations to flush out terrorists in Assam.
"We will share information with the Assam Police, and if needed, we will hold joint exercises to hunt down terrorists," a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
One of the six alleged terrorists - Jabirul Islam - was arrested by the Special Task Force of the Kolkata Police from Cachhar district of Assam. Police had recovered a large tranche of fake currency from him.
It was the information gathered form Jabirul Islam's interrogation that led the police to the other five JMB operatives including the terrorist organisation's West Bengal unit head Anwar Hussain Farooq and second-in-command Yusuf Sheikh.
Except for Farooq, the other five arrested were also named by the National Investigation Agency in its chargesheet for the 2014 Kharagarh blast. Police said they were also considering a joint interrogation of Jabirul Islam and another terrorist captured by the Assam Police.
Kolkata Police also said that it was in touch with the Bangladesh Police in connection with the probe into the roles of the arrested JMB terrorists. At least three of the arrested JMB terrorists were suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals and were on the most wanted list of the Bangladesh Police in connection with various crimes.
The police also said that no links between Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI and the six arrested terrorists had been established as of now.
"As of now, nothing of this sort has been established. But questioning is yet to be over, we are expecting that more information will surface," a senior police officer said.
