Students protest at Jadavpur University.
Kolkata:
In a bizarre twist to the Jadavpur University controversy, its registrar said today that the website of the varsity was "hacked" and that the message posted on the vice chancellor's page claiming he is "sorry" has been fabricated by outsiders.
"No, this message is not from our side. I have spoken to the vice chancellor. Somebody hacked it and posted it from outside. We have asked our technical team to look into it and if needed, we will also intimate police," Registrar Pradip Ghosh said.
Students were allegedly beaten up by police on September 17 as they were protesting outside vice chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarty's office, seeking a fresh inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of a student in the campus last month.
The police crackdown has been widely condemned, with students and political parties demanding Chakrabarty's removal as the vice chancellor.
