Kolkata airport's new terminal to be a reality soon
Kolkata: The new terminal building of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata with a capacity to handle four million passengers would be commissioned within four months.

"The on-going modernisation of the airport here is nearing completion and the new terminal building with increased capacity of four million passengers from the existing one million will be commissioned well within four months", Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said here today.

The modernisation of the airport, including development of areas adjacent to it, helipads and renovation of a couple of airstrips would cost nearly Rs two lakh crore, he said.

"Kolkata airport is not only the gateway of eastern and north-eastern India, but also the entire South East Asia. Developed air connectivity here will help promote development as well as tourism, besides creating opportunities for employment", Mr Singh said.

Stressing on the trade and tourism potential of the state, Mr Singh hoped that the Airports Authority of India would be benefitted by developed air-connectivity in the state.

Mr Singh, who met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said there was no discussion with her on Foreign Direct Investment in Aviation which is yet to be cleared by the union cabinet.
