Kolkata civic body says no dengue death in city

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday denied the reported dengue death of woman in a private medical college hospital of the city and instead claimed that the woman had not died of dengue but of some other disease.

Member-Mayor-in-Council (MMIC-Health) Atin Ghosh claimed that the woman Sharmistha Malakar had not died of dengue.

Mr Ghosh claimed that blood reports of the woman showed no trace of dengue.

The MMIC Health said the KMC would take action including legal steps against the private medical college and hospital which stated that the death of Sharmistha Malakar was due to dengue.

Sharmistha Malakar, aged around 40 and a resident of Sapuipara area of the city, died on Monday after suffering from fever. The private medical college hospital where she was admitted had stated that her death was due to dengue.
