A class X girl student on Wednesday was designated as the deputy commissioner of Kolkata Police's traffic department for a day, after she won an essay writing competition organised by the city police.
Fifteen-year-old Angshu Harikumar of Gurbachan Singh Sondhi HS bagged the top honours in the competition and was made the DC, traffic, of the city police for a day today.
City Police Commissioner S K Purakayastha was present when Anghsu took over the chair.
Senior police officials were learnt to have helped Angshu in helping her understand the nitty-gritties of traffic management and the operations to maintain smooth traffic in the metropolis.
Around 150 schools in the city participated in the competition organised by the city police aiming to increase traffic awareness among the people.
The topic of the competition was "How to manage traffic, if you were the DC traffic for a day" and the winner will be made DC traffic of the city for a day.
