Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a garment godown in a building at Metiabruz, an area in the southern fringe of the city, today.
Fifteen fire tenders have been pushed into service after the fire was reported at the godown at 6.05 AM, fire service sources said.
"There has been no report of casualty. Other details are yet to be ascertained. The fire is partially under control," the sources said.
Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the windows.
The fire fighters were facing problem due to the thick smoke. They had to break open the windows to pump water into the rooms to douse the flames.
Fire fighters were also finding it difficult to get access to the building due to narrow roads.
