Kolkata:
Depressed at his inability to make ends meet due to heavy expenses incurred on the treatment of his handicapped son, a 55-year-old man in Kolkata on Tuesday allegedly shot dead his son before killing himself, police said.
The incident happened in Metiabruz area of the city where Awadesh Singh, who worked as an ATM security guard, shot dead his 19-year-old son Ritesh before pulling the trigger on himself.
"After losing his job at a cotton mill, Singh was already suffering from depression. He managed to get a job as an ATM guard but found it difficult to meet ends especially due to the heavy expenses he had to incur on Ritesh's treatment," Joint Commissioner of Police Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.
"Unable to cope with his depression, he first shot wheelchair-bound Ritesh in the head killing him instantly and later turned the gun at himself and committed suicide," he added.
