Kolkata: Kolkata metro services were halted briefly on Sunday as a safety measure after fresh tremors hit the city and other parts of West Bengal following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Nepal.
A metro railway spokesperson said trains were halted at 12.42 pm as a precautionary measure; the trains where brought to stations and evacuated. The services resumed at 01:33 pm, officials said.
Shopping malls were also evacuated soon after the quake.
Tremors were also felt in Siliguri town of Darjeeling district.
Reports from Jalpaiguri district said people rushed out of multi-storeyed buildings and shopping malls as the ground shook.
