Kolkata Metro to run 76 extra trains to handle Durga Puja rush

Kolkata: To handle huge rush during the Durga Puja, the Kolkata Metro Railway will run 76 extra trains on Saptami, Ashtami and Nabami days, a Metro spokesperson said today.

The trains will run from 2 pm to 4 am during these three days.

However, on the day of Dashami, trains will run only from 4 pm to 9:45 pm, he said.

Officials said they had 542 trains last year, while this time they have decided to run 618 trains.

Meanwhile, the Metro Railway has created an all-time high record by carrying 7.42 lakh passengers on a single day yesterday, the officials said.

The feat surpasses its last record created on January 3, 2011 when 7.16 lakh passengers had used the underground rail service.

For security reasons, X-ray baggage machines have been installed in the 23 Metro stations just before the festive season.
