Kolkata: A famed radio jockey (RJ) working with a city FM channel was allegedly raped at a party hosted by an industrialist's son. The offender, also suspected of drug peddling, is yet to be arrested, police said on Monday.
The incident happened in May and a formal police complaint was lodged on June 10.
"The victim in her complaint alleged that she was raped by a person who happens to be the son of an industrialist. The alleged offender is also suspected to be involved in drug peddling," Joint Commissioner (Crime) PK Ghosh told media persons.
However sources say, the RJ was allegedly duped by the industrialist's son. A local channel reported that the 'victim' claimed there was no question of rape, as it was consensual sex. According to the channel, money was exchanged to settle the matter out of court. Though, on the basis of her complaint, police have started an investigation, making it difficult for the woman to withdraw the case.
The incident came to public notice following media reports alleging police inaction in the case.
According to police, the RJ and the alleged offender knew each other even before the incident happened.
The alleged rape took place when the victim consumed intoxicants and lost her consciousness at the party.
