Kolkata: Two passenger trains today came face-to-face at Sealdah railway station in Kolkata but a major accident was averted as the trains were in very slow motion and stopped, Eastern railway sources said.
The driver of Sealdah-Lalgola passenger overshot the starter signal at the cross-over point outside the platform when Bongaon local was coming from the opposite direction, Eastern railway CPRO R N Mahapatra said.
He said a collision was averted as drivers of both the trains which were in a very slow motion, stopped them.
The driver, assistant driver and guard of Lalgola passenger were suspended and an inquiry was ordered into the incident, he added.
