Kolkata: Two people were killed and another injured in a shootout over property in Kolkata early this morning.
The shooting took place at 4.30 am at a home from where a nursery school is run on Short Street near the home of the city's Police Commissioner.
The police have arrested Mamata Agarwal, who stayed in the house and is the principal of the nursery school she ran.
She was reportedly seen on surveillance cameras repeatedly firing at a group of 10 intruders, including women, who allegedly scaled the boundary walls and forced their way into the school. They were allegedly armed with sticks.
The police say Ms Agarwal's guard was also seen firing at the attackers. Two of them died on the spot while a third is in hospital.
The principal claimed that she had complained recently to the police about threats she had received over the property. The dispute allegedly involves Ratanlal Nahata, a part owner who also stays in the building, and one Sanjay Surekha, who had bought a share of the property and wanted the premises vacated.
The police are examining security camera footage to piece together the chain of events.
