Shortly after a bridge collapse in Kolkata, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on an official visit to Darjeeling, said she wanted to return to the state capital but there were no flights.
A section of a bridge in south Kolkata came crashing down this evening. One person was killed in the bridge collapse and 24 people have been injured. The bridge stood over some rail tracks in Alipur, one of the most prominent areas in the city.

The fire brigade, police and personnel of the National Disaster Response Force are carrying out rescue work.
