Firemen at Kolkata's New Market where a major fire broke out this morning
Kolkata:
A major fire broke out this afternoon at the iconic New Market in central Kolkata.
The fire started at the wholesale fish bazaar of the 150-year-old market. Around 20 fire engines are at the spot.
Thick smoke obscured a part of the market as firemen tried to put out the blaze.
"The fire engines came very late," said a shopkeeper.
It was hard for the vehicles to negotiate the narrow and crowded lanes at the back of New Market.
There are no reports of casualties.
