Metro superintendent jumps onto track to save woman passenger

Kolkata: An alert station superintendent of metro railway today stepped onto the track and saved the life of a woman passenger who jumped in front of a train at Belgachia station.

Railway sources said that Dilip Chowdhury, station superintendent of Belgachia metro station, without caring for his life, jumped on to the track instantly and rescued the woman passenger who suffered minor injury.

A prompt driver by then had pulled the brake and stopped the train.

She was rushed to state-run R G Kar Medical College and hospital.

Train services, affected for about five minutes, resumed shortly thereafter.

Two pairs of up and down trains were cancelled due to the incident.
