Photo exhibition on children with autism

Kolkata: To spread awareness on autism and remove the social stigma attached with the neurological disorder, a photo exhibition was today held here on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day. Organized by the Mumbai-based Association for Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the 20 black and white photographs capture some beautiful moments of children with autism.

Clicked by renowned photographers like Rahul Maheshwari, Ambica Prakash and Akshata Joshi, the exhibition 'Beautiful Moments' is also being held simultaneously in Lucknow, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

The exhibition seeks to reach out to people from various sections of society to make them aware that many children with autism have enormous amount of talent and they need to be understood and accepted by society before they can be integrated, said Sunetra Dasgupta of ABA.

Autism is a lifelong neurological disorder which causes children to perceive, interpret and experience the world differently from the way most children normally do. Poor eye contact and reality contact makes them unaware of their environment and have trouble linking words to their meanings.

Celebrating unique talents and skills of persons with autism, World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated each year on April 2 since 2007.
