Kolkata: An Irish national who was allegedly raped in Kolkata has been admitted to a nursing home following an overdose of prescription drugs, an official said on Sunday.
"She was admitted to our nursing home following an overdose of prescription drugs. Though her condition is stable, she is in the intensive care unit (ICU)," a spokesperson of Calcutta Medical Research Institute said.
The woman, associated with a Darjeeling-based NGO, was found unconscious in her hotel room in Kolkata, following which she was hospitalised on Saturday. She is yet to regain consciousness.
Police refused to comment if she attempted suicide.
The 21-year-old had lodged a complaint on June 1 that she was raped by her male friend at his residence in Kolkata's Kalighat area on May 31. Following which the accused Sujoy Mitra, a city businessman, was arrested.
