Scare for metro passengers as gate fails to open

Kolkata: Hundreds of passengers were left locked inside a Dum Dum-bound Metro train on Saturday after the gates failed to open due to a major technical glitch.

The train arrived at Shyambazar at 9.15 pm after which the gates failed to open, leaving passengers locked inside the coaches, Metro officials said.

Later, the passengers were moved out of the stranded train from the driver's cabin.

All Dum Dum-bound trains were cancelled for the night.

Some passengers complained of being beaten by RPF personnel when they protested against the technical lapse.

RPF, however, denied any instance of lathicharge.
