Bollywood Actor Shahrukh Khan lifts a lady police constable during a dance sequence at a Kolkata Police programme.
Kolkata:
Shah Rukh Khan swept a woman constable in uniform off her feet, literally, and danced with her around the stage as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee looked on.
This, at Jai Hey, a variety show put up by the Kolkata Police on Saturday at Kolkata's Netaji Indoor Stadium where Mamata Banerjee tied a rakhi on SRK's wrist to celebrate Rakshabandhan.
The song-and-dance-episode has triggered the anger of the Opposition about indiscipline in the state police force.
"How could a police woman in uniform be allowed to dance on stage?" said Ritesh Tewari, a BJP leader.
Though there has been no official reaction from Kolkata Police, sources said the dancing episode was completely impromptu and in keeping with the flow of the show.
"The rules don't allow a person in uniform to dance," said state Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
While a former Kolkata Police Commissioner, Nirupam Som, has said on record that he would have never allowed it, another retired IPS officer Sandhi Mukherjee has said, "Perhaps the dancing happened on the spur of the moment. But it would have been better if it had not happened."
The event was attended by actors Bipasha Basu, Jeet and Dev, who is also a Trinamool Congress MP.
