Kolkata: A first-year undergraduate student, hailing from Patna, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of his college hostel in Kolkata, police said today.
According to Dhrubajyoti Dey, Deputy Commissioner of eastern suburban division, at about 9.30 pm on Friday night, 18-year-old Souvik Sinha, a first-year B.Sc student at St Xavier's College jumped from the sixth floor of his hostel on AJC Bose Road.
Deputy Commissioner Dey said he was declared brought dead at Sana Nursing Home.
"Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. We have not yet discovered a suicide note. We are carrying out an investigation and talking to family members," he said.
