Kolkata: Instead of being donated as he had wished, the body of legendary Bengali writer Sunil Gangopadhyay will now be cremated on Thursday, his son said.
"Though he had pledged his body to be donated after his death, we have decided against it. He will now be cremated on Thursday. His body will not be donated," son Souvik said.
"We have taken this decision after a long discussion. After a person's death, those who are left behind are affected. I and my mother have decided against donating my father's body," he added.
Mr Gangopadhyay, who died in Kolkata on early Tuesday following cardiac arrest, will be cremated at the Keoratala Ghat.
Equally acclaimed for his poems and novels in both West Bengal and Bangladesh, the writer, 78, leaves behind his wife, and son who lives in Boston.
