Kolkata:
Professor Suranjan Das, former vice chancellor (VC) of prestigious Calcutta University, today took over as a new VC of Jadavpur University.
After taking up his new assignment, Mr Das said any teacher, student, staff-member and researcher of the varsity could meet him anytime.
"My doors are always open for everyone. If the entire university community works together then there is no problem....university is a place for open debate. I will not look back at the past," he observed.
Asked about the removal of CCTV cameras from inside the campus which were installed during the controversial tenure of ex-VC Abhijit Chakrabarti, Professor Das said he would look into the matter.
Following a police crackdown on agitating students at Jadavpur University, Dr Chakrabarti had been forced to resign on January 12 as students started a hunger strike demanding his removal from the post.
The post was lying vacant since then and pro-VC Ashish S Verma was managing the affairs.
