Kolkata: A SUV on Sunday rammed into the bamboo structure erected for today's Independence Day celebrations on the Red Road in the afternoon and the driver-owner was arrested.
At around 2.50 pm the south-bound SUV rammed into the fencing and the bamboo structure on Red Road opposite the Ambedkar statue in the Maidan Police Station area, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"Though no one received injury but the bamboo structure made for the Independence Day Parade was partially damaged," the officer said.
The owner-driver has been arrested and the vehicle impounded, he said.
The Officer-in-charge (Building) and officer-in-charge of Maidan Police Station have been asked to take necessary action for repairing, fencing and the barricades, the senior KP officer said.
