Kolkata: Commuters in Kolkata are bracing for another round of hardship as taxi unions plan for a huge rally on September 10 to protest alleged police atrocities and to demand a fare hike.
"We will hold a massive rally on September 10 to send a concrete message to the state government," said Indian National Trade Union Congress leader Ramen Pandey.
All taxi unions in the city as well as auto and bus unions would be participating in the rally on September 10 in support of their demands, he claimed.
"Our strike yesterday was 100 per cent successful and now is the time for the government to act," Mr Pandey said.
Yesterday's taxi strike was the sixth in the city since August 7 when taxi drivers went on a flash strike demanding a halt to alleged police harassment and the withdrawal of imposition of penalty on them for refusing passengers. Police have arrested 22 drivers on charges of committing vandalism during the protest.
