Teen girl gang-raped, set on fire by assaulters
Kolkata: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and then set on fire by her assaulters at her home in Baruipur near Kolkata on Tuesday.

The teenager was reportedly alone at home when three young men from her locality barged in. After raping her, they allegedly poured kerosene on her, set her on fire and then fled away from the scene of crime.

The victim's father, a daily wage labourer, filed an FIR last evening. The three alleged rapists were arrested early this morning. One of them is said to be a minor.

The victim was initially rushed to a local nursing home. She was moved to Kolkata's SSKM hospital last night.

Baruipur is a town in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. It is situated 30 kilometres away from the state's capital Kolkata.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Monday slammed a "section of media" for allegedly sensationalising rape cases in her state to target her government. She said they publish "canards and exaggerated and negative news items" to show her administration in bad light.

Blaming them for spreading "news pollution", Ms Banerjee had added, "Everyday rape incidents are being highlighted as if the entire state has become the land of rapists. Rape is sought to be glorified by these people. This will not be tolerated by people. I would like to say that negative journalism only destroys and it is time to champion positive journalism."
