Kolkata: Trinamool Congress lawmaker Idris Ali today moved a PIL in the Calcutta High Court against an all-India general strike call given by Left and some other trade unions on September 2.
Mr Ali, a practising lawyer, moved a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Girish Gupta and Justice Arindam Sinha, seeking an injunction on the strike.
He claimed that the strike call was illegal and could cause damage to public property apart from harassment to the public.
The matter is likely to be taken up for hearing on Wednesday.
The trade unions have given a call for a countrywide general strike on September 2 to protest the "anti-people, anti-national and anti-worker" policies of the NDA government at the centre.
