Barasat, West Bengal:
A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead and another injured on Saturday when unknown gunmen fired at them outside their party office at Agarpara in North 24-Parganas district.
Police said that Hyder Ali died after sustaining five bullet wounds.
The second person, Ullas Jana, suffered bullet wounds when he went to rescue Ali from the motorbike-borne assailants this evening at Nayabasti.
Mr Ali was declared dead at a local hospital while his party colleague Jana has been admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, police said.
Mr Ali was a leader of Panihati town Trinamool Congress.
