Kolkata:
A 30-year-old woman has filed a police complaint that she was abducted by at least five people and gangraped, police said today. One man has been arrested.
"The victim, a mother of a 10-year-old girl and working as a medical attendant, was returning home when she was forcibly picked up from Chetla in south Kolkata by five men in a vehicle and was gangraped by at least two people," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.
"On the basis of her complaint, we have arrested a man who is alleged to have been following and harassing the woman for the past one month," he added.
The incident happened on Saturday evening when the woman was returning to her home in Tollygunje. A vehicle stopped near her and two men came out and sought her service as a medical attendant, police said.
On her refusal, the men allegedly forced her into the vehicle, blindfolded her and after driving for about half an hour, took her to a house where she was raped by two men.
The woman was kept in the house for the entire night and was dumped at the same place from where she was picked in the early hours on Sunday.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Commission for Women chairperson Sunanda Mukherjee hinted at a conspiracy behind the crime.
"Going by the reports, it seems to be a planned offence. The fact that the offenders used condoms while committing the crime shows that it was not a random but a planned offence. They also had details of the woman as to where she goes to work and when she returns," said Mukherjee.
