Howrah, West Bengal : A woman was killed in a house collapse at Panchla area of Bengals' Howrah district this morning as heavy rains lashed the district and other parts of South Bengal.
A district official said the woman died as her mud house gave in this morning due to the downpour caused by a depression since last evening.
Her husband was injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile the rains caused massive waterlogging with 39 villages in Amta block along submerged rendering 8,000 villagers sheltered in relief camps.
A 24/7 hour control room has been set up in the block.
The rains also threw life out of gear in Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas district besides other parts of gangetic West Bengal.
