One woman labourer was killed and another injured on Wednesday when a four-wheeler hit her while she was doing repair work on Biren Roy Road in the southern part of the city, police said.
The incident happened at around 2.45 hrs when the car hit two labourers - Majida Bibi (30) and Namita Das (35) who were engaged in repairing work on the road.
Both were rushed to the MR Bangur Hospital where Majida Bibi, a resident of Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas district, was declared brought dead, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
Namita of Falta of the same district was badly injured and was being treated at the same hospital.
Though the vehicle was seized, its driver and an occupant fled from the spot, he added.
