Most movies leave you hours after exiting the theatre while a selective few remain timeless for years to come. The Devil Wears Prada is one such iconic film. Deliciously snarky, high on glamour and dry humour plus, steeped in fashion references, it's no wonder it's massively loved. The movie released on 1st July, 2006 and continues to be a choice fashion pick for many a movie night. As we celebrate 12 years of The Devil Wears Prada, here are 12 life lessons the movie left us with.

1. Fashion Isn't Frivolous

It can seem that way to someone outside the industry, but the fashion industry is much more than pretty pictures and fancy clothes. It is a trillion-dollar industry that impacts the economy in numerous ways; a number which is only going up.

2. Do Your Groundwork

Whatever industry you are a part of, make sure you know the facts, techniques and procedures of it at the back of your hand and if you don't, ask for help to understand it. In this day and age of the internet, not knowing anything (or asking the spelling of 'Gabbana') isn't a good enough excuse.

3. Confidence Is Key

No matter how nervous you are about your presentation, remember to fake it till you make it. Projecting a smart, self-assured persona is half the battle won in most scenarios. Remember Miranda Priestly's elevator exit that left everyone awe-struck and intimidated? Exactly.

4. Strong People Aren't All That They Seem

Even the toughest nuts are plagued with insecurity, anxiety and frustration. They're just better at hiding it. Find the route to break down the strong exterior and it's smooth sailing from there.

5. Build A Thick Skin

Every day won't be a good one. You'll be faced with barbs, criticism and sometimes, flak for things you didn't even do. A thick skin will make sure you get up, dust yourself off and come back stronger than before.

6. Fashion Isn't All Glamour

As seen in the movie, there are plenty of nights turning into mornings, seemingly impossible tasks and maddening assignments when working in fashion. It's far from the mascara-wearing, Chanel-toting glam doll job most people think it is.

7. However, Sometimes It Is

We have to admit that on some days, it is. Fashionable clothes, new launches and getting up close and personal with celebrities are some of the perks of the job.

8. Dress To Impress

All jobs are based on the skills you possess and your experience in the field but dressing well for the job always leaves a wonderful first impression.

9. Work Wives Forever

No matter how many tussles you have with them, work wives will be your besties through lunch breaks and never-ending meetings.

10. It's Fictional

If you didn't know already, most movies are fictionalised to some extent. So in all probability, you won't be sent out to find an unpublished manuscript when you're getting into the swing of things.

11. Do The New

Be it a job, a hobby, a relationship or a cuisine, if you don't venture into something new, you won't know if you love it or hate it. Either way, you'll be left with a memory or life lesson but never regret.

12. Love What You Do

Whatever you do, make sure you thoroughly enjoy every second of it. A passion like that will make even the most trying of times seem like barely anything.

That's all.
