Exactly 20 years ago, Koi…Mil Gaya released, nudging Hrithik Roshan into the spotlight. On the cult movie's 20th anniversary, the actor revealed to IMDb how his own childhood experiences aided him in essaying the character of Rohit Mehra. Roshan revealed that his childhood experiences not only aided him with his role but were actually recreated in a few scenes in the movie. He said, “I actually took a lot from my childhood. So I was bullied. My cycle was broken. Although this was a scooty in the film, mine was a cycle.” The actor added, “You know, a cycle I loved. I used to be crazy about cycling and stunts and I had this BMX bike and some big boys came and they broke it. And it was heartbreaking.” Rohit Mehra was seen being bullied by a few bikers on the street while he was going back home from school.

Detailing how he tweaked his role a bit while comparing his childhood, Hrithik said, “So I had already lived some of those sequences, but the one thing I had that made the character is that I played him mentally challenged but without self-sympathy. I had a lot of anger, and I added that. I added anger, and I added stubbornness, and I added dignity.” He continued, “What is inspiring about Rohit, and this is something I believe in my life, is that when you are stuck in a hole and really trying to come out, people will come and help. It's very inspiring for me to see someone stuck but still trying. That attitude is very inspiring, which I put into this character, and it became special. That was the missing link.”

With classic Bollywood-style storytelling and impressive VFX, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta starrer ended up being a blockbuster back in 2003. Cinephiles loved the movies to such an extent that Rohit Mehra and Jadoo ended up being household names.

You know how to do this..you know how to control the brain.” He concluded the clip by saying, “Every time Hrehaan and I feel fear, we are going to think about what Hridaan did and how he beat his fear.”
