3 Signs You're A Workaholic And Need To Chill Out

If all you're ever thinking about is getting in more hours at your desk, you're bound to miss out on some of the most important moments in life

3 Signs You're A Workaholic And Need To Chill Out
Constantly sitting at your desk without much movement is bad for your overall mental health

If you've spent a few years (months for some prodigies) working, chances are that you fall in one of the two categories - you know a workaholic, or, you are one. If you fall into the latter category, sit still and read on, because you my friend might need to reconsider your priorities. Sure, your career and your current job are both important - but making your entire life about work will probably do you more harm than good. Paying your bills courtesy that great job is important, but so is spending time with your loved ones and doing things that you enjoy. Think about it, if all you're ever thinking about is getting in more hours at your desk, you're bound to miss out on some of the most important and special moments in life. So work hard, yes, but also learn to let loose and have a little fun.

Here are some signs you're a workaholic and really need to chill out.

1. You just don't know how to switch off

It doesn't matter if you've gotten up from that desk and left office for the day - your mind and attention is still on those incoming emails. Whether you're on holiday or taking a sick day, the urge to reply to your emails and get some work done even when you're officially on leave never truly leaves you. You might be sitting in an exotic locale, but an hour without your devices will basically give you the heebie jeebies.

2. Your body feels drained out

If you're spending that much time sitting on your desk trying to get things done, chances are that you're missing out on the essential exercise that your body needs. You probably even end up eating lunch at your desk trying to maximise your time and productivity. But in addition to just being bad for your body, sitting at your desk without much movement is also bad for your mind and overall mental health. Sitting all day and partly the night, staring at a screen can throw your sleep cycle off track. This leads to your body feeling tired and your mood constantly bordering irritable.

3. Your relationships are strained

You barely ever see your friends. Talking on the phone to your family feels like a chore, because well, it digs into your work time. Your partner, if you're in a relationship, never truly seems happy with you. And all you ever hear when you meet or talk to either of them is "we barely ever see you". If this situation sounds familiar, it's definitely time to take a little break and spend time with your close ones.
