Create unnecessary drama

Don’t create fights where they don’t exist, and definitely don’t get into a screaming match with the other person. Tears, drama and unnecessary finger pointing, blame games - all of that makes the situation worse.

Don’t try to make yourself out to be the victim

Reverse psychology is great - gaslighting is so toxic because most of the times it works, and you come out as the victim rather than the abuser. Breaking up with someone is fine when you have legitimate reasons, but don’t go making them sound like some kind of an insane person who wrecked you when they didn’t and all you want to do is make yourself feel better. Don’t blame them for YOUR actions either.

Don’t try to slowly slide it in

Don’t make it a process where you give hints and signs and blow hot and cold and hope that they get the hint that you aren’t interested in them anymore. It is a cowardly thing to do, not to mention frustrating for the other person. Instead, go up to them and clear the air. You have better chances of keeping it clean that way.
