In a happy and successful relationship, your partner is your lover, your best friend and everything else in between. There's little in life that you can't or won't share with them. But no matter how successful your relationship might be, every couple hits a point where everything you do for one another just sort of becomes a given. This point is soon followed by taking everything, including the relationship you share, for granted. No matter how long you might have been together, that's not a good point to hit, ever. The little things you do for one another might change over time, but in order to keep your relationship a loving and happy one, don't stop doing them, altogether.

Here are a few things partners always ought to do for one another.

1. Compliment each other

Yes, something as small as this affects your relationship. Hearing positive feedback and getting validation from someone you love never gets old. You might forget how it feels (because you haven't heard something nice in a while) or stop feeling the need to tell your partner how great you think they look, or how much you appreciate their support, etc - but these are the things that keep the romance and excitement alive in a relationship. Both of which, believe us, are important.

2. Be honest with each other

Even when you think the truth might be harsh. This applies for the smallest of things. If you think something your partner is wearing is not entirely flattering, tell them. If you think they could be better at work, tell them and be there for them when they put in the extra hours. No matter what the situation, give them your honest opinion. Even if it not well received and leads to a temporary fight, you know you would have done the right thing; and your partner will come to appreciate it.

3. Forgive each other

No one is perfect and we all have annoying habits that are hard to get rid of. Not saying one shouldn't try and improve an obviously bad habit, but nagging your partner about something that might take time to change can actually do more harm than good. Point out what you don't like, tell your partner you'd appreciate them being mindful of doing that particular thing, and then move on. It's hard, but unless it's a serious issue in your life, forgive them. You can deal with a wet towel on the bed, until you can't.
