Whether you're having a rough week at work, a series of fights with your spouse, have no time to meet friends, spilled coffee all over your brand new white shirt, are beyond done with being stuck in traffic or just missed a flight - no matter what your plight, take a minute and pause. We all have moments where we feel like the whole world is out to get us. The stress begins to kick in and little else then seems to matter. Here's what you need to remember at times like these - allowing stress to take over your brain and being only makes a situation worse. 1. Focus on your breathing
Essentially, take a few moments to meditate. You will be surprised at how much just a few moments of sitting in silence and focusing on nothing but your own breath can calm you down. The best part is that this can be done anywhere and at anytime. Simply sit or lie down in a comfortable position and make no effort to control your breath. Breathe naturally and focus your attention on how your body moves as you inhale and exhale. Don't feel disheartened if your mind begins to wander - that is perfectly natural. But try and bring your attention back to your breath and focus as much as possible. It'll immediately alleviate stress and anxiety.
2. Brew yourself a hot cup of tea
Some teas like chamomile and peppermint can have a rather calming effect. Both these teas not only reduce anxiety and stress, but they also act as natural muscle relaxants and can help reduce irritability. Drinking tea can also relieve stress and boost your mood due to its natural aroma.
3. Take a walk
If you've ever been in a terrible mood, decided to take a walk and come back feeling better, you know exactly what we're talking about. Walking can help reduce your body's response to a stressful event and can immediately lighten your mood by releasing endorphins - your body's happy hormones.
