When you identify a negative thought, you must first come up with a positive thought to counter the negative one. Then you can use the counter argument to the negative thought as an affirmation. For example, a person going through depression, who fears that they aren’t loved or cared for can go for an affirmation saying “I deserve to be loved and stay happy”.

Visualise a positive outcome
Use an affirmation to target a positive outcome or goal. When you repeat to yourself an affirmation that makes you feel positive and motivated to achieve a certain goal, it helps you visualise your goal clearly and therefore helps you work towards it better. Not only are you encouraged and keep negative thoughts at bay but in the process you figure out exactly what needs to be done.
