There are many ways to consume mangoes in summer. Eating it raw is the choice of many but one can make the most of the summers by trying some delicious mango drinks, shakes, desserts, and even have it with your favourite breakfast cereal. Simple and easy to make but different from the common recipe, give the following recipes a try.
1. Mango Panna
This is a very common drink made in most households during the summer months with raw tangy mangoes. Wash and boil some raw mangoes in a cooker –cool it –remove the skin and then blend in a blender. A healthy twist to it would be to add jaggery, rock salt, or a pinch of cardamom powder to it. Serve it cold with roasted cumin powder and a sprig of mint. A very soothing drink to have after spending a hot day outside- a perfect antidote for heatstroke and relief from the scorching sun.
2. Mango Shake
Take any mango if it's a bit sour the better, peel and cut it into small pieces. Add a glass of chilled milk and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sugar is an option for all those who like it sweet or you can also add some kewra or Chandan sherbet for an exotic taste. Blend it in a mixer, pour it into a tall glass decorate it with small mango cubes and a sliver of saffron. 3. Mango Salsa
Yes, the yummy tomato salsa can be made by replacing the tomatoes with juicy, sweet, and sour mangoes. This dish can be made in just minutes and is a perfect accompaniment with chips, nachos, and raw salads. You can use it as a garnishing too. Chop mangoes after peeling in very small cubes, add finely chopped onions, parsley, green chilies, sea salt, few drops of lemon juice –mix it well, and it's ready! So simple to make and so tasty you would want to add it with everything, your tortillas, tacos, and eat it like a chutney with different types of parathas.
4. Mango Lassi
This appetizing drink is available in most eateries in the summers but making it and serving it at home has a totally different taste to it. While it can be made with any mango, it tastes best when we use Alphonso. Take some thick chilled curd and a cup of peeled and cubed mangoes with some vanilla ice cream and sugar. Blend it well in a mixer and serve it in a tall glass. Sugar can be replaced with jaggery or a spoon of mango frooti or mango slice. Decorate it with chopped almond and pistachio and a thinly cut slice of mango.
