The weekend is almost here and being the midst of the monsoon, is likely to be a rainy one. But that doesn't mean you have to sulk because you're stuck indoors. There are so many things you can do even when you're holed up inside. If it's a quiet creative time you want, try these DIY projects. They are quick, extremely easy and the best way to make use of a gloomy afternoon.

1. Brush Holder
Have a few empty jam and peanut butter jars lying around? If they are wide-mouthed, they'd be perfect to hold makeup brushes. First wash, sanitise and dry them completely. Next, apply acrylic paint over the outer surface of the jar. You can try a solid pastel shade for a chic finish or go wild with colours, as long as it's completely concealed from the outside. Allow it to dry for 24 hours, then stick it on your dresser to hold your brushes.
2. Embellished Shoes
Everyone has a pair of shoes they've bought on a whim which now only gather dust. Why not let your creativity flow and embellish them instead? Grab a glue gun or super glue and use it to encrust rhinestones and motifs directly on the shoes. You can also mix loose glitter and glue to create glitter glue and paint the shoes with it. Allow it to dry for one day and slip on.
3. Customised Mugs
If you hate drinking coffee out of the mug you have, here's how to custom make one that fits you. Buy a solid coloured mug and pack of coloured permanent markets. Use it to doodle, stencil or add tags like 'queen' on your mug. Allow the marker to dry for a few minutes, then put in in the microwave on bake mode at around 180 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. Remove it, let it cool and your mug can be used as usual.
4. Jewellery Holder
Necklaces and bracelets seem to get entangled no matter how you store them. One fool-proof way to change this is by hanging them on a jewellery holder. To make one, use a hammer to carefully hammer nails horizontally across the width of an old wooden hanger. Once finished, you can also paint the hanger for a bright finish. Now all you need to do is simply hang your bracelets and necklaces on the nails across the hanger.
