Whoever invented glitter nail polish, we owe them immensely. But do you only get glitter nails done when you're at a salon, because it seems messy and tedious to try for yourself? It's time to change. Glitter nails can look salon ready without messiness, even at home. The next time you go sparkly, try these 5 glitter nail polish hacks.
1. Base Right
One of the downsides of glitter nail is how long it takes to remove it. That's why using the right base coat is important. Instead of an ordinary polish, use a brush to apply a thin layer of peel-off glue (like Fevicol) to your nails. Let it dry and continue with your glitter polish. When you want to change your manicure, all you'll need to do is peel off the glue.
2. Base Shade
When it comes to sparkly nails, the devil seems to be in the base coat. While a transparent or white shade might be your usual pick, it is a sparse background for glitter. Change that by using a matching solid shade as a base before your glitter polish. (Eg. Red nail polish before red glitter polish). It'll make the final appearance of the glitter much fuller.
3. Apply Well
Applying glitter nail polish with the attached brush can make the finished look uneven and patchy. An absolutely genius way to apply glitter evenly is with a sponge. Yes, really. Use the brush to apply a thin layer of glitter polish to one edge of a makeup sponge and dab it evenly over the nail bed. This will allow more control over where the glitter is placed.
4. Removal Tips
To tackle the most difficult part of a glitter manicure (i.e. its removal), we've got just the hack for you. Cut small sizes of cotton pads, soak them in nail polish remover and wrap them around each finger. Then completely wrap each nail with aluminium foil and leave for 15 minutes. Unwrap and you'll find it sliding off easily.
5. Freeze It
No one wishes claggy glitter polish even on their enemy, just because of how difficult it can get. Avoid this by sticking the bottle in the fridge for 15 minutes before applying it. It will make the formula much smoother to apply.
