Over the weekend, supermodel and stylista Gigi Hadid went ahead and got herself a set of bangs. In what looks to be the makeup room of a shoot for Vogue Italia, Gigi Hadid shows us a close up of her face with pink shadow, bronzed skin and a surprising brunette mop of hair with a choppy fringe hitting her forehead. A spontaneously chic decision for Hadid which might not be so for the rest of us. Getting a brand new chop in the spur of the moment may seem like a good idea but the consequences aren't always as sweet, especially with a fussy hairstyle like bangs. It looks gorgeous on Gigi but keep in mind, she has hairstylists with her who can fix any hair catastrophe that comes up. That's why it's important to remember these five things before you get bangs
1. It Isn't Always Fair
Bangs aren't for everybody and that's the cold, hard truth. They are best suited for certain face shapes and features or else, they can cover too much face area and make it look smaller than it actually is. Even then there are numerous types of bangs that suit particular shapes so make sure you do your thorough research on them.
2. It's High Maintainence
If you want a hairstyle that takes little to no effort and minimal styling, then bangs are not for you and that's coming from experience. Bangs are fussy and finicky; they need daily washing, styling and smoothening products to stay in their best shape. Only if you're ready to put in that kind of effort on a daily basis should you go through with it.
3. It Needs Trimming
Depending on how quickly your hair grows, bangs need regular trims; sometimes those are as frequent as every two - three weeks. Even if you think you can shirk it off and get by for a few months with a trim, you'll be left with overgrown hair at an awkward length and split ends. No one wants that now, do they?
4. Heat Is Constant
To work hand-in-hand with smoothening products, bangs also require heat styling tools to drive frizz away. Frizz is the enemy of the fringe and comes in the way of its sleek, straight finish. To combat it, blow-dryers and flat irons are needed regularly to style hair in place. This can also lead to brittle, damaged hair in the long run.
5. First Time May Not Be The Charm
Like mentioned, bangs are of many types and if it's your first time getting them or you aren't aware of what type suits you best, it may not always look good at the start. Sometimes it takes a few haircuts to understand what length, shape and style of bangs works best for a face so brace yourself for the growing out process before you even begin.
