5 Things You Must Not Miss Doing In Ahmedabad
There is much to do in the largest city of Gujarat

Located on the banks of the river Sabarmati, Ahmedabad is one city that everyone should experience once in their lives. The largest city of Gujarat, the state’s erstwhile capital, and home to some of the most delectable Indian dishes, Ahmedabad is an industrial and cultural hub. Travelling there during Navratri is a different experience altogether. But even if you happen to be visiting the city at any other time of the year, here are five things that you must not miss doing there.

See the Adalaj Stepwell

Located an hour away from Ahmedabad, this stepwell is one of the many intricately done up stepwells in India. Built in 1498, the stepwell is five storeys deep, is a fine example of Indian architecture with its depiction of Islamic motifs, Hindu and Jain gods.

Check out the Jama Masjid and Sidi Saiyyed Mosque

Both these mosques are a fine example of Indian architecture and beauty. The Jama Masjid, situated in the old city, is a mosque that was built for the use of sultans back in the day. Now open to public, it is hard for the visitors to not be in awe of the intricate detailing on the minars and the walls. The same is the case with Sidi Saiyyed Masjid, which is known for its beautiful marble screens, known as jaalis.

Eat at Manek Chowk

This night time food market is one of the best things the city has to offer - food wise. Everything from the pav bhaji, the pineapple and cheese sandwich, and a range of Gujarati food tastes absolutely delicious. Interestingly, Manek Chowk is a vegetable market during the morning, a jewellery market through the day, and food market at night.

Calico Textile Museum

Ahmedabad being a major trading centre for textiles, it is only fitting that there is a museum dedicated to some of the finest textiles of India here - both industrial and handicraft. Textiles on display include not only what historical rulers once wore but also various fabrics from all across the country, embroidery techniques, and paintings.
